HangSpot

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

HangSpot (“we”, “us”) operates the HangSpot mobile app for arranging in-person hangs in your city. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is written for people in India and is intended to meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 in plain language. We do not sell your personal data.

Who we are

HangSpot is the data fiduciary for personal data processed through the app. For privacy questions, access, correction, deletion, or a grievance, email support@hangspot.app. We will acknowledge and work to resolve requests in a reasonable time.

Information we collect

Account: Apple, Google, or email sign-in (via Firebase), and the HangSpot profile you create (name, photo or mood avatar, city, hang preferences, optional gender, bio). Product: hangs you host or join, sparks, memberships, chat messages and media you send, reports and blocks. Location: approximate or precise location while you use map, nearby, create/join, and meet-proof — not in the background. Trust: live selfie / co-selfie when you choose verification. Plus (if enabled): who viewed your profile and hang insights. Host rewards (if enabled): wallet and UPI details you submit. Device: basic app, crash, and diagnostics data needed to keep the service reliable.

How we use it

We use this data to authenticate you; show hangs in your city and on the map; apply create/join and city rules; unlock chat after a clear yes; run meet-proof and anti-abuse checks; send service notifications you opt into; respond to support; protect safety; and improve reliability. We do not use your data to train public AI models or to sell ads against your identity.

Legal basis & consent

We process personal data to provide the service you request (account, hangs, chat, map), with your consent where required (location, camera, notifications, optional verification photos), and to meet legal, safety, and fraud obligations. You can withdraw optional consents in device settings or by deleting your account. Withdrawal does not affect processing already completed.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share limited data with processors who help run HangSpot: hosting, database, authentication (Firebase — Apple / Google / email), maps and places, crash reporting, analytics, and support. Other users see only what the product is designed to show (public profile fields, hang pins you host, chat with people you matched). We may disclose information if required by law or to protect someone’s safety.

Location

Location is used for the map, nearby hangs, city create/join checks, and meet-proof when you open a hang near the pin. Home and private invites stay off the public map. HangSpot does not collect background location. You can deny or revoke location permission; some map features will not work without it.

Photos, chat media & verification

Profile photos, hang covers, and chat media are stored as durable assets so they survive server restarts. Live selfie / co-selfie is used only for trust and rewards integrity — not as a public feed. Do not upload photos of other people without their consent. Limited records may be kept for fraud, safety, and dispute review.

Notifications

If you allow push notifications, we send hang, spark, chat, and reminder alerts. You can turn these off in device settings. Transactional messages (security, account) may still be sent by email when you use email sign-in.

Retention

We keep account and hang records while your account is active. After you delete your account we remove or de-identify profile, membership, and chat content that is no longer needed, with limited retention where law, safety, fraud, or moderation requires it. Crash logs and diagnostics are kept only as long as needed to operate the service.

Security

We use industry-standard controls (HTTPS, access-limited servers, hashed session tokens). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Report suspected account compromise to support immediately.

Your rights

You may access and update profile details in the app, sign out, and delete your account from You → Delete account. You may also request a copy, correction, or erasure by emailing support@hangspot.app. You can report and block other users. If you are unhappy with our response, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India as provided under applicable law.

Children

HangSpot is for adults. You must be at least 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, contact us and we will delete it.

International processing

Some processors (including authentication and hosting) may process data outside India. We use them only as needed to provide the service and expect appropriate safeguards.

Changes

We may update this policy as HangSpot changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Material changes will be posted in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
